Promotions: Offer Types & Chart Eligibility

Updated this week

Promotions let you incentivize fans at the merch table while capturing venue sales data directly into Shopify. Below are the types of offers you can run, plus the guardrails to keep your sales chart-eligible.

⚠️ Note: Only one promo can run at a time in atVenu Register.

Supported Offer Types

1. Percentage Off

  • Examples

    • 5–10% off all merch

    • 10% off entire transaction with QR code (limit 250 redemptions)

  • Why choose this? Simple to explain, easy to train staff, and chart-safe (as long as albums stay above Luminate’s minimum price).

  • Best for: Most tours that want a universal incentive without complicating the booth.

2. Dollar Amount Off

  • Example: $5 off when you spend $50+ in merch (limit 500 redemptions)

  • Why choose this? Clear, tangible savings that fans “feel” more than percentages.

  • Important:

    • Applies to the entire transaction, not a single SKU.

    • You cannot restrict discounts to one item (e.g. “$5 off hoodies only” is not supported).

  • Best for: Tours with higher-priced merch (hoodies, vinyl, jackets) where the discount has more impact.

3. Free Inventoried Item

(Note: atVenu requires all items to be inventoried with a dollar value — no true $0 freebies yet.)

  • Examples

    • Free bumper sticker with QR code (unlimited redemptions)

    • Spend $75+, get a free poster

  • Why choose this? Tangible rewards resonate with fans and help clear excess stock.

  • Important:

    • Item must be inventoried with a set value.

    • Merch staff hand the item over at redemption (Register doesn’t enforce SKU-specific rules).

  • Best for: Tours with diverse merch lines or when you want to push higher average order values.

Guardrails for Chart Reporting

To keep sales chart-eligible:

  • Albums must remain at or above Luminate’s minimum price.

    • Confirm exact thresholds directly with Luminate.

  • Avoid album-specific promos.

    • ❌ Example: “Buy the album, get a free shirt.”

    • This creates a Music+Merch bundle → not reportable.

  • General discounts are safe.

    • ✅ Example: “5–10% off all merch” or “$5 off $50+ orders.”

    • Safe as long as albums remain above minimums.

  • Spend-threshold promos are generally safe, but gray area remains.

    • Example: “Spend $50+, get a free poster.”

    • The album may count toward the spend, but it isn’t required.

    • ⚠️ Luminate has final authority. These promos are typically accepted, but confirm directly with Luminate for official guidance.

Suggested Defaults for Teams

  • Most teams: Start with a 5–10% across-the-board discount.

    • Simple, chart-safe, proven to lift spend.

  • Teams looking to upsell: Use a spend-threshold freebie (poster/tote).

    • Encourages bigger baskets; applies to cart total, not a single SKU.

  • Avoid: Any promo tied directly to an album purchase if you’re aiming for chart-eligible sales.
