Promotions: Offer Types & Chart Eligibility

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Promotions let you incentivize fans at the merch table while capturing sales data directly into Shopify.

This article explains:

  • The offer types supported in atVenu Register

  • Chart-eligibility guardrails

  • Recommended defaults to get started

👉 For help deciding which promo best fits your goals and fans, see Guide: Choosing the Right Promotion.

Offer Types

Percentage Off

  • Examples: 5–10% off all merch, 10% off entire transaction

  • Why: Simple to explain, easy for staff, chart-safe if albums stay above Luminate’s minimum price

  • Best for: A universal, low-friction option most tours can run

Dollar Amount Off

  • Example: $5 off when you spend $50+

  • Why: Tangible savings fans feel more than small % discounts

  • Best for: Tours with higher-priced items (hoodies, vinyl, jackets)

  • Important: Applies to the entire transaction; cannot be limited to a single SKU

Free Inventoried Item

  • Examples: Free postcard with QR code; spend $75+, get a poster

  • Why: Adds perceived value, clears stock, creates loyalty moments

  • Best for: Tours with diverse merch lines or larger order values

  • Important: Item must be inventoried with a dollar value

Guardrails for Chart Reporting

  • Albums must stay at or above Luminate’s minimum price

  • Avoid album-specific promos (❌ “Buy the album, get a free shirt”)

  • General discounts are safe (✅ “10% off all merch”, “$5 off $50+”)

  • Spend-threshold promos are usually accepted, but confirm with Luminate if unsure

Suggested Defaults

  • Most tours: 5–10% off all merch (simple and chart-safe)

  • Upsells: Spend-threshold freebie (poster/tote) to lift basket size

  • Avoid: Any promo tied directly to album purchase if aiming for chart eligibility
