Public Preview lets people who don't have access see enough of a post to want in. You set it per post, and it does two things at once: it shows a preview on your store, and it emails members on lower tiers to tell them the post exists.
The two options
Every post is one or the other.
Members Only. Only members whose tier includes the post can open it. Everyone else sees a locked post.
Public Preview. Anyone can see the title, the first image or thumbnail, and an excerpt, behind a Join to Unlock prompt.
The email teaser
If you pick Public Preview and turn on Notify Members, members on tiers below the one the post is locked to — free tiers included — get an email when it publishes.
That email has the post title, a short excerpt and an Upgrade button. Images come through blurred, so nothing paid actually leaks. Members who do have access get the normal post email instead, and nobody gets both.
Note: Notify Members has to be on. With it off, nothing goes out at all — no post email and no teaser. Public Preview on its own only changes what people see on your store.

FAQ
How often should I use the teaser?
Save it for posts genuinely worth upgrading for. Teasing everything trains people to ignore the emails, and a big free tier means a lot of email.
Can I send the teaser again later?
No. Each person gets one email per post, ever. Re-sending a post's notification won't reach anyone who already got one.
Who doesn't get the teaser?
Anyone who turned off post emails in their account, and your verified artists and moderators, who can already see the post.
I run more than one membership.
Only members of the membership the post is locked to get teased. Members of a separate membership hear nothing, even on a cheaper tier.
