A free tier lets community members access your content without a paid subscription. You can add people you already have permission to contact, like an existing mailing list or past Shopify customers, directly to this tier.
The activation mode you choose decides what happens next: Single either sends an invitation or instantly imports and activates the accounts.
To start, open your community in Single and click Members.
Step 1: Choose your source list
You can pull members from two sources.
Shopify segments.
Best for syncing existing Shopify data. Pull from any saved segment, like customers who have purchased at least once, or fans who abandoned checkout in the last 30 days.
CSV file upload.
Best for bulk-uploading an external list, like one from Mailchimp, Klaviyo, or a spreadsheet. Only Email is required, and each row is one person.
Column header | Required? | Description |
ID | No | A unique identifier for each customer. |
Yes | The customer's email address. | |
First Name | No | The customer's first name. |
Last Name | No | The customer's last name. |
Street Line 1 | No | The first line of the customer's address. |
Street Line 2 | No | The second line of the customer's address. |
City | No | The customer's city. |
State | No | The customer's state or province. |
Country Code | No | The customer's country in ISO 2-letter format, like US. |

Step 2: Choose your activation mode
Before you finish, choose how these people are processed. This decides whether you're sending an invitation or importing members directly.
Send Invite. People receive an invitation email. They aren't added to your member list automatically and must accept the invite before they get access.
Activate Immediately. People skip the sign-up and invitation step. They're imported, activated, and given instant access to the free tier with no email confirmation.
Common questions
What format does Country Code need?
Use the ISO 2-letter format. Enter US instead of United States, or CA instead of Canada. Other formats cause address errors.
Why won't my CSV upload?
Two things to check:
Missing emails. Every row needs a valid email. A blank Email field will fail the upload.
Headers. Your column headers need to match the names in the table above.
If your file meets the requirements and still won't upload, submit a request through our support form with your store domain and the CSV attached.
