Set up Video On Demand

Learn how to create Video On Demand experiences in your Shopify store.

Updated this week

Single lets you create premium video experiences directly inside your Shopify store. With VOD (Video on Demand), you can sell streaming video content similar to Amazon Prime or pay-per-view platforms while maintaining full control over who can watch. Each video can have custom access rules that determine access, whether it’s customers who’ve bought a specific product, active members of your membership, or ticket holders for a special event.

Getting Started

Step 1: Upload Your Video & Set Details

On this step, you'll set some basic information about your video.

  • Upload the video & click edit.

  • Add a thumbnail.

  • Choose a title, creator & add a video description (optional).

  • Enable / Disable the Chat (shows a chat box in the video player).

  • Enable / Disable subtitles.

  • Choose if you want to block viewership in any specific territories

  • Set tags - these are not traditional hashtags like you see in social media, these are used to arrange videos with app blocks.

Step 2: Choose How Your Video is Accessed

On this step, you'll choose what products grant access to your video.

Types of Access

  • Active Members - select any of your current Single memberships and specific tiers. This option will give those members access to your video.

  • Buyers of Existing Products - search your Shopify inventory for any product. When you select the product, anyone who purchases that product will be granted access to the video.

Note: If you choose the "Buyers of Existing Products" option, you'll see two on/off toggles - "Managed Fulfillment & "Deliver to Existing Orders."

Managed Fulfillment - Single will mark orders of this product fulfilled in Shopify for you (do not enable this for physical products you manage the shipping / logistics for).

Deliver to Existing Orders - Single will deliver video access to all purchasers of the product, present & previous. You will be charged for each order of that product.

  • Create Tickets - Single can publish a product to your Shopify for you. Any purchase of this product will grant access to your video.

Rental Duration

  • Choose the number of days you want each ticket or product to grant access to the viewer.

  • The access period begins when the viewer first visits the video player.

Step 3: Add Your Video to Shopify

In this step, you can choose where your video lives in your Shopify store.

Options:

  • Use Single's built-in page - Single creates a page for each video right in your Shopify store automatically. You can copy the link and add it to your store's navigation for easy access. Your customers will also be emailed a link to this page by default.

  • Use Single's Video App Block - you can place your video anywhere you want on your store (homepage, specific page, etc.) with our Video Player App Block. Learn how with this guide.

  • For Active Members - the videos will live on the built-in membership page by default.

Publish your video and you're all set.

Publishing your video will trigger the email notification to anyone who've you selected to have access.
